Duval Charter Scholars Academy Offers 21st Century Community Learning Center Program
Funded through the 21st Century Community Learning Center grant, Duval Charter Scholars Academy offers an afterschool program for students in kindergarten through 8th grade. Afterschool activities are designed to help students master Florida academic standards in reading, math, and science. To support these goals, daily homework help and intervention instruction are provided.
Through the STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) component, students participate in technology, math and science projects. Character development and leadership activities, college readiness, health and nutrition, art, and recreation are also included in the daily activities. Literacy Nights provide adult family members instruction in areas such as understanding the Florida State Standards, technology, financial literacy, and college planning and preparation.
Local partners supporting the 21st Century Scholars Afterschool program include Junior Achievement, University of North Florida, Baptist Medical Center, Vystar, My Gym Jacksonville, and the local office of the National Parks Service.
